“I encourage clients to be candid and open and to approach therapy as a cooperative effort of assessment, planning and treatment. Self-advocacy and education are important in developing confidence in pursuing personal change. Clients benefit from being understood for how they are at the present time and from respect for the pace at which they wish to work. These values are especially important in working in the problem areas of relationship issues, eating disorders, ADHD and depression. Focused treatment planning and clear goals help client confidence in the process.

Relationship work stresses communication, respect, and understanding of the patterns of interaction and how they can be changed. Eating disorder work uses family history and emotional issues as well as strategic and paced behavioral goals. ADHD assessment and treatment of all ages includes behavioral and medication treatment.

Good treatment starts with a good evaluation. This allows the use of the right therapy approach of the many specific strategies that have been developed in recent years. With client permission, collaboration with physicians, family or schools may also be helpful.”
